Story behind the photo – Soma Sarkar
I’ve taken this photo at Kolkata, West Bengal near Eden Garden during a Transit Camp to Gangasagar Mela.
Courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent and guts, that’s what she is made of. When travelling with her frail and deluded mother to a transit camp for performing rituals, she could take care of every little requirement of her mother that seemed within reach. To her the ritual is to serve the ultimate deity (her mother) who showed her the light of day & gave the warmth of unconditional love.
I spotted her near to the adjoining land of the Ganga river, her lurching & busy eyes showed restlessness in performing the rituals along with her mother. On the contrary she was amazed to behold the unfounded behavior of the pilgrims.
She remained startled with the colorful figures and paintings all around. She giggled and sometimes twittered for the less concerning needs of her, like sparrows twitter under the leaves.
Jumping and sprawling around the Camps to catch up with the concert of a million characters, she sometimes tried to flee with the breezing gust of wind blowing all across the shores. Amidst all the activities she started collecting all the remaining offerings (Food) of the pilgrims from the wet land and presented to the stray dogs & crows sprawling around. She looked ecstatic while doing that, she found tranquil “And though being a little soul, she is a dreamer, a change setter and a future world in the making.
